Iconography, in traditional materials and methods.

I had the unusual opportunity to study with a Russian school, working with experienced American iconographers as part of my practice, and to participate in this ancient and continuous living art tradition. Beyond the painting experience gained, this contemplative practice and way of seeing humanity is deeply meaningful.

    Dear Anne:

I attended your iconography presentation with Joshua Sturgill in Tulsa last year, and I most recently saw you at the Eighth Day Institute event in Wichita.

The icon that you did for the silent auction, St. Gregory, was so beautiful. I bid on it but didn’t win it.

I wonder if you could tell me what it would cost to commission an icon of the same size (8 x 10?) as a gift for my husband. His patron saint is St. Leo the Great, Pope of Rome. We’ve not been able to purchase an icon of St. Leo; they just aren’t available. When Bob took the name Leo at chrismation, I printed a picture of an icon of St. Leo off the internet and decoupaged it onto a small piece of wood. Needless to say, it would be wonderful to have a real icon of him.

I have no idea what icons cost; I know that they are expensive. But just give me an idea of what the price would be, assuming that you do commissioned work, and about how long it would take to complete. Bob’s birthday/saint’s day has just gone by (Feb. 18th) but I thought it could be a belated present for him.

Thank you so much for your kind attention. God bless you.
